Creating Clip-On Earrings Without Pain

I don’t have pierced ears. So naturally, I’ve experienced my fair share of clip-on earrings.

My very first clip-on was probably one of those foldable metal clips that clamp down on the earlobe. If I tightened it too much, it hurt almost instantly. If I loosened it, it would fall off somewhere—often lost for good.

Next came the screw-back type, which allowed some adjustment based on earlobe thickness. It was a step up, but still too heavy and uncomfortable for long wear. Then, during college, I discovered spring-loaded hoop-style clip-ons. They looked just like real earrings and were light enough to customize with different charms. But again, the spring tension would hurt my earlobes, making them hard to wear for long hours.

Then a few years ago—perhaps around 2019—I stumbled upon clip-ons made of plastic. As someone who’s been into resin art for years, I recognized the material right away. It was lightweight, flexible, and felt full of potential.

I immediately used what I had on hand to create the earrings I had always dreamed of. My first creation was a pair of small white pearl studs. I still wear that very pair today. I’ll never forget how it felt the first time I put them on—so light, so real, and best of all, pain-free even after a full day of wear. Eureka! One of my lifelong wishes had finally come true.
